The Canadian government has banned the use of TikTok on government devices due to security concerns. The ban comes after similar moves by the US government, which has cited concerns about the Chinese-owned social media app's collection of user data.
According to a statement by the Canadian Chief Information Officer, "The Government of Canada has implemented a directive to prohibit the use of TikTok on devices that are used for government business due to security concerns."
TikTok has faced increasing scrutiny in recent months over its handling of user data, with some countries accusing the company of sharing user data with the Chinese government. The company has denied these claims, and has said that it stores user data outside of China and has strict controls in place to protect user privacy.
However, the US and other countries remain concerned about the app's security risks, and have taken steps to limit its use. In addition to the ban on government devices in Canada, the US has also banned the app on military devices and has threatened to ban the app outright.
